The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS) issued Resolution 1491 of 2025, which regulates Law 2173 of 2021 and establishes new environmental obligations for companies in Colombia. According to this resolution, all medium and large companies in the country must implement annual tree-planting programs aimed at contributing to ecological restoration and the protection of strategic ecosystems. The regulation stipulates that each company must plant at least two trees per employee and ensures that the planting takes place in areas designated as “Areas of Life”, previously delineated by environmental authorities.

In addition, Resolution 1491 of 2025 specifies the technical guidelines that companies must follow, including the planning, approval, execution, maintenance, and monitoring of the planted trees. In this way, the obligation is not limited to mere planting but ensures that actions have a real and sustainable environmental impact. With this measure, the government seeks to involve the private sector actively in ecological restoration as a concrete and verifiable corporate responsibility.
