Reglamentacion Drones

The Colombian Government, through the Ministry of Defense, has submitted a bill to Congress aiming to regulate the use, ownership, and control of drones throughout the country. This legislative initiative seeks to address the growing use of drones across different sectors and to ensure public safety, national security, and respect for fundamental rights.

The proposed bill differentiates between recreational, commercial, and institutional drone usage. For each category, specific operational requirements would be enforced, including mandatory registrations, permits, and technical compliance standards.

The draft law also outlines restricted areas where drone operation would be prohibited—such as military facilities, prisons, and other strategic locations—and includes penalties for violations. Additionally, it introduces oversight mechanisms for the manufacturing, marketing, importation, and distribution of drones in Colombia, with a strong focus on traceability and regulatory control.

This legislative effort aims to fill current regulatory gaps, empower the State in matters of aerial oversight, and address emerging challenges related to privacy, public order, and technological innovation in unmanned aerial systems.
