Juan Carlos Padilla

Juan Carlos Padilla Uricoechea is the director of the Mining, Oil, and Gas practice at Brigard Urrutia. He joined the Brigard Urrutia’s team in 2021, specializing in regulatory, contractual, and transactional advisory in the mining, oil, natural gas, and liquid fuels sectors.

With almost 20 years of experience in the natural resources sector, Juan Carlos has worked at prominent companies such as Ecopetrol and Transportadora de Gas Internacional (TGI), where he led the legal and regulatory matters of various projects. At Brigard Urrutia, he has directed transactions for multinational and local companies in the mining and oil sectors and provided regulatory advice to companies in the natural gas and liquid fuels sectors in Colombia.

In 2023, he was recognized as a "rising star" in the energy and natural resources sector by the publication Legal500, due to his leadership in significant transactions in the sector.

Juan Carlos is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, with a specialization in mining, oil, and gas from the Universidad Externado de Colombia, where he currently teaches seminars on natural gas. Additionally, he holds an LL.M. from ESADE Ramon Llull University in Barcelona, obtained thanks to a scholarship from the Fundación Carolina.

He is widely recognized for his practical experience in the sector, both in commercial and technical aspects, and for his pragmatic approach to the solutions required by his clients.
